Ending

In this study tour, I realized that America is a melting pot. I saw many peoples. I felt directly the atmosphere of America. I think it was important for me to know the fact. I sometimes heard that America has many peoples, but I couldn’t know what it is. The experience is really important.

Any other thing what I learned is the use of words. I know some English grammars, but I don’t know how to speak English. Through speaking English with teachers and mentors, I learned many things about English.

To be honest, I am not so interested in the monuments or something like that, because I don’t know American history. The most important thing is that I am in America. So, I complete my job.

Thank you for everyone and everything.

The Country Fair

Aug, 14

After morning class, we went to the Montgomery Country Agricultural Fair.

There are a lot of attractions, booths and animals at the fair.

We are tired because of long journey to the fair (it took 2 hour to the fair from our hotel), but we really enjoyed the fair.

After that I went back to the hotel and have a dinner.

I went to bed at 2 o’clock.

Week end

Aug, 11

The most impressive thing was the Prange collection where there are many old Japanese books which published or don’t published after the war.

There are many books at the collection. It looked really important for us to know the Japanese situation after the war.

I want to see more books. But, we had not so much time to see more.

Aug, 12

Today, we went to Annapolis where there is the state house.
Annapolis is beautiful city. The town has high price. So, we can eat only sandwiches.
After that, we went to the harbor and got on the boat. It was so fun.

Aug, 13

We visited Mount Vermon where there is a house of George Washington.
The house has many rooms and has big beautiful garden (from the garden, we can see Potomac river). I want to live in such a beautiful house.

Thursday, Aug, 10

Today, we had a panel discussion about education in America.
The panelists talked about living at the University, choosing a major, choosing a college in America and so on. Then, I knew that my listening ability is really low, because I couldn’t listen to him or her speeches. I disappointed the fact. I have to study more and more.

At the afternoon, I took a rest and slept in my room.
After that, we had a dinner at the café and bought some souvenirs.

Because of the globalization, many things seem similar in Japan.
I think the most notable difference is the diversity of people. We can see people in all over the world in America.

Wednesday, Aug, 9

In the morning, we had a class about the cultural diversity in America. At the class, we learned the population or language diversity in America. I cannot imagine that America has such diversity.

In the afternoon, we went to China Town and Adams-Morgan and took many pictures.

China Town was not so interesting place, because Japan also has a China Town. But, Chinese food which Ji-won got for us was very good.

In Adams-Morgan, we walked the street and we entered some store, book store, café, bar, ice cream store and so on.

After that, I went back to College Park and had a dinner with a mentor and guys. What we talked were the problems of marriage and love affair. Talking with them was really fun for me. The mentor has a Catholic belief and he said he want to be a priest. So, he will not get marry and will not have a wife. I was surprised, but it was good for me to know such thought that I had never heard.

The rest time that we can be in America is only 6 days. So, I want to have a nice time with our friends as possible as I can.

Media day and American family day

Aug, 7

In the morning, we had an English class and reflections.

In English class, we studied about the role of the media, because we went to Washington Post this afternoon.

In the evening, we visited National Geographic Explorers hall where there are many photos for media. It was fun for me to see the photos.

After that, we visited Washington Post. I had a really nice time in there. I didn’t have any interest to media. But, I could have a good image of media. The work seems to be fun.

At last, we had a walking tour in Washington D.C.

After we went back to College Park where we stay, we had a dinner at Japanese restaurant called Samurai sam. It is not good.

Aug, 8

Today, we had a panel discussion about family. I could know many things about the family of other countries. There are a lot of differences among countries. I was glad to hear the opinion of professors and mentors, Kevin, Nina, Ji-won, Laura and Tim.

In afternoon, we went to the shopping mall, the fashion centre at Pentagon City. It is really big mall and has four floors. We enjoyed shopping at the mall.

When we arrived at the College Park, the time was already 9. And we went to the laundry and washed my cloths and played billiards.

Aug,6

Today, I went to the museum of American Indian, National Air and Space Museum and the National Gallery of Art.

First of all, we saw a movie about the American Indian in the museum. I supposed that identity is a difficult problem for them. It is complicated problem.

Second, we went to the National Air and Space Museum. I am not interested in Space or something. So, this place is a little tired for me.

Finally, we went to the National Gallery of Art. I enjoyed this museum very much. Pictures are beautiful. But, I have no time to see all of the exhibitions. So, I want to visit the museum one more time.

In the evening, we went to the George Town for dinner. We had pastas for dinner. Those were really good.

After that, we were back to the hotel and went to bed.

Aug,5

Saturday (forth day in Meryland)

We visited many memorials.

At the morning, we met with mentors at the lobby and went to the Metro station.

About 30 minutes, we arrived at Washington D.C

First of all, we visited the Vietnam Veterans Memorial where there is a memorial which is carved names of victims who died at the war.

Second, we went to the Lincoln Memorial. There is a big monument of Lincoln. All of us took pictures and took rest.

The Korean Veterans Memorial was impressive for me.

The Old Post Office Pavilion where we visited for lunch is very big and broad. I ate a chicken salad at the Old Post Office Pavilion.

In the evening, we visited the World War II Memorial and the Washington Monument.

The first day

I came to Maryland with our colleague (7 male students, 13 female students and a professor) for study.

When we arrived at the Washington airport, we were very tired because we had finished a long journey from Japan.

After we arrived at the airport, we met the mentors and professors who help our study tour and we went to the University of Maryland.

Then we had a dinner at restaurant near university. I ate pasta. It was very nice.

Before I went to bed, we had worked in the university. I was surprised the size of the university. It is very big and there are many libraries, buildings and even theater.

I hope our study tour will be successful.

The second day

It was very hot day.We did do orientation for this study tour.

We went to the museum in the library.

After we had a lunch, we played with mentors (played bowling and billiards).

We had a nice time.

At the night, we went to famous sandwich shop and ate sandwiches and we watched a movie “accepted”. I guess it was funny movie because everyone was laughing. But, I couldn’t understand.

We enjoyed the second day very much.
